For their 2022 lineup, Volvo is looking towards the future as they have decided to remove their long-standing gas-powered T-series of engines and replace them with the new hybrid B-series. This switch will effectively end all gas options in Volvo vehicles, making all future Volvo's be exclusively hybrid or fully electric automobiles.

Transforming a Combustion Engine

Mild hybrids are an effective powertrain solution to reduce an engine's overall load and generate better gas mileage. By turning their once gas-powered vehicles into mild hybrids, Volvo aims to improve not only the fuel economy of their vehicles for New Iberia drivers, but they also aim to improve their vehicles driving experience as well.

A mild hybrid combines an electric motor, a 48-volt battery, and a 12 volt or 48-volt converter with an internal combustion engine. This combination works by collecting energy regained by braking and stores it in the 48-volt battery to provide electric power for improved acceleration.

The New B4, B5, and B6 Mild Hybrid Engines

Since the new B-series of engines are replacing the T-series, we understand that some Youngsville residents may want to know what these new engines can offer. The new engines being released are the B4, B5, and B6.

Opelousas drivers will discover tons of power in these new mild-hybrid engines. The first of the three new options is the B4, and it utilizes a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor to produce 197 horsepower. The next option, the B5, is slightly enhanced as it produces 250 horsepower. The B6 is the strongest of the new powertrains as it adds a supercharger to the B5, allowing it to reach 400 horsepower.
