The new 2023 Volvo XC40 Recharge and the new 2023 Volvo C40 Recharge share many similarities, but there are few key differences between them that may influence your decision. To start off, both models have impressive ranges, but the Volvo C40 Recharge can go three miles further on a single charge than the Volvo XC40 Recharge can.3,4 If you’re looking to save a couple thousand dollars, however, you’ll want to pick the Volvo XC40 Recharge, which starts at a lower MSRP than its counterpart.5 The Volvo XC40 Recharge also has 8.5 more cubic feet of cargo space available (with the rear seats folded) than the Volvo C40 Recharge, so if you often carry lots of groceries, luggage or furniture, those extra cubic feet are a must.

When it comes to head room in the front and rear seats, the Volvo XC40 Recharge includes more head room for rear passengers than those in the front seats (due to its boxier design), while the Volvo C40 Recharge includes the opposite: more head room for the driver and front passenger than the rear passengers. If you’ll be driving without rear passengers often (or if those in the back are little ones in carseats), you might opt for more head room in the front — but if you’ll often be driving with adults in the back, you might choose the extra rear head room in the Volvo XC40 Recharge. Finally, these models share many luxurious features, including available heated front and rear seats, but only the Volvo C40 Recharge comes with a standard laminated, panoramic glass roof (which lets in just enough sunlight, but not too much), and only the Volvo XC40 Recharge comes with standard glossy black roof rails (perfect for those needing to carry gear for outdoor adventures).
